You Ain't Goin' Nowhere è stata scritta da Dylan nel 1967, durante il periodo di convalescenza seguito all'incidente motociclistico del 1966. La canzone è stata registrata con The Band nella sessione nota come The Basement Tapes, ma questa versione verrà pubblicata solo nel 1975. Pertanto, in ordine cronologico, la prima apparizione è in Greatest Hits Vol II.
I Byrds pubblicheranno una loro cover per l'album Sweethearts of the Rodeo (1968) raggiungendo un discreto successo. Il cantante dei Byrds McGuinn invertirà erroneamente un verso ("Pick up your money, pack up your tent" diventerà "Pack up your money, pick up your tent").
